I haven’t read the whole thing yet, but an impressive piece of work by #FatouBensouda and company. The OTP has clearly prepared for this moment. #ICC #Afghanistan https://t.co/bQVU5v3YKy

An enormous upset in the UN – for the UK, the P5, the Security Council – and a huge victory for India and reform: British candidate for ICJ withdrawn. https://t.co/3LtE7hwOpz

Between ICC prosecutor move on Afghanistan and US seeking to punish Palestine for advocating ICC prosecution of Israelis, the issue of court jurisdiction over non-member state nationals is becoming more acute.

Here is a link to the OTP’s formal request to open an investigation in #Afghanistan. Will be unpleasant reading for the US — it contains considerable detail about torture and sexual mistreatment of detainees in Afghanistan and #CIA black sites. https://t.co/MhcetNMi4X #ICC

ICC prosecutor has just released full explanation of why she wants an investigation in Afghanistan, including certain US conduct there and in eastern Europe related to the Afghanistan conflict.

Many say „science should decide“, but our institutions have copy-pasted from Monsanto’s application. That’s not science – @BurtscherHelmut#StopGlyphosate

Only use published data. The EU’s scientific advisory mechanism already does it. Of course industry doesn’t like it, but that’s what it takes to gain trust of independent scientists and citizens – @FranziskaAb #StopGlyphosate

#EFSA & #ECHA health risk assessments highly flawed, rely heavily on industry sponsored studies and assessment of independent studies largely copied and pasted from industry – @FranziskaAb #StopGlyphosate

Detailing EU Complicity In Rohingya Crisis – Parliament Publishes Burma Campaign UK Evidence https://t.co/2Xo9DCUSnL #ASEM
— Burma Campaign UK (@burmacampaignuk) 20. November 2017
As EU Foreign Ministers meet Asian counterparts at the ASEM meeting in Burma’s capital, Naypyidaw, the Foreign Affairs Committee of the British Parliament has published evidence submitted by Burma Campaign UK which details EU complicity in the current Rohingya Crisis.
Since the new crisis began almost three months ago, the EU has not taken any practical action to try to prevent further atrocities. EU ministers have twice met and discussed the crisis and decided not to act. The only step taken is to suspend invitations to senior military officers to visit the EU.
Burma Campaign UK, along with Rohingya organisations and other human rights organisations, is calling on the EU to implement the following measures:
- Officially support the establishment of a UN mandated global arms embargo (The EU currently has its own arms embargo).
- Implement a visa ban on members of the Burmese military entering the EU.
- Ban the supply of any equipment to the military, not just arms.
- End all military training and co-operation programmes.
- Ban investment and business dealings with military owned companies.
- Support a referral of the situation in Burma to the International Criminal Court.
- Explore options for the application of universal jurisdiction relating to violations of international law in Burma.
- Review co-operation and support with the government of Burma in light of its denial of human rights violations and continuation of policies of repression against the Rohingya.
Appalling how the #EU High Rep @FedericaMog completely fails to acknowledge that #Rohingya are fleeing the #Myanmar army’s campaign of crimes against humanity (killings, rape, arson, persecution) – what the #UN Rights Chief refers to as a „textbook example of ethnic cleansing“ https://t.co/iApm8uERKy
