He was also considered an important <\/span><\/strong><\/span>musician<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/a>, <\/span><\/strong><\/span>poet<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/a>, dramatist, <\/span><\/strong><\/span>exeget<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/a>, <\/span><\/strong><\/span>theologian<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/a>, and <\/span><\/strong><\/span>logician<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/a> – a <\/span><\/strong><\/span>polymathic<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/a> personality who exercised strong influences on Indian culture.<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n He was born in the Valley of Kashmir <\/sup>in a family of scholars and mystics and studied all the schools of philosophy and art of his time under the guidance of as many as fifteen (or more) teachers and <\/span><\/strong><\/span>gurus<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/a>. In his long life he completed over 35 works, the largest and most famous of which is <\/span><\/strong><\/span>TantrÄ?loka<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/a>, an encyclopedic treatise on all the philosophical and practical aspects of <\/span><\/strong><\/span>Trika<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/a> and <\/span><\/strong><\/span>Kaula<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/a> (known today as Kashmir Shaivism).
