The Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) „are the most broadly supported, comprehensive and specific development goals the world has ever agreed upon. These eight time-bound goals provide concrete, numerical benchmarks for tackling extreme poverty in its many dimensions. They include goals and targets on income poverty, hunger, maternal and child mortality, disease, inadequate shelter, gender inequality, environmental degradation and the Global Partnership for Development. „Adopted by world leaders in the year 2000 and set to be achieved by 2015, the MDGs are both global and local, tailored by each country to suit specific development needs. They provide a framework for the entire international community to work together towards a common end \u2013 making sure that human development reaches everyone, everywhere. COP16 will be the sixteenth Conference of the Parties (COP) under the <\/span><\/strong>United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change<\/span><\/strong> (UNFCCC). A famine is a widespread scarcity of food that may apply to any <\/span><\/strong>faunal<\/span><\/strong> species. This phenomenon is usually accompanied by regional <\/span><\/strong>malnutrition<\/span><\/strong>, <\/span><\/strong>starvation<\/span><\/strong>, <\/span><\/strong>epidemic<\/span><\/strong>, and increased <\/span><\/strong>mortality<\/span><\/strong>. Long term measures include investment in modern <\/span><\/strong>agriculture<\/span><\/strong> in places that lack them, such as fertilizers and <\/span><\/strong>irrigation<\/span><\/strong>, which largely eradicated <\/span><\/strong>hunger<\/span><\/strong> in the developed world. <\/sup>However, <\/span><\/strong>World Bank<\/span><\/strong> strictures restrict government subsidies for farmers and the spread of fertilizer use is hampered by some environmental groups . In The Coming Famine, Julian Cribb lays out a vivid picture of impending planetary crisis–a global food shortage that threatens to hit by mid-century–that would dwarf any in our previous experience. Cribb’s comprehensive assessment describes a dangerous confluence of shortages–of water, land, energy, technology, and knowledge–combined with the increased demand created by population and economic growth.<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n
