ARTICLE 19<\/strong> (whose name is normally written in upper case letters) is a London<\/span><\/a>-based human rights<\/span><\/a> organization with a specific mandate and focus on the defense and promotion of freedom of expression<\/span><\/a> and freedom of information<\/span><\/a> worldwide founded in 1987.[1]<\/span><\/a><\/sup> The organization takes its name from Article 19 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights<\/span><\/a><\/strong><\/span>, which states: <\/span><\/p>\n

“ Everyone has the right to freedom of opinion and expression; the right includes freedom to hold opinions without interference and to seek, receive and impart information and ideas through any media regardless of frontiers.<\/span>\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n
