Anti-corruption head to speak with the IBA in open forum – free webcast, 10 June at 14.30 BST

As allegations of widespread corruption within world football’s governing body, FIFA, abound, José Ugaz, Chair of Transparency International (TI), will join the IBA for a live online interview on Wednesday 10 June 2015 at14.30 BST. Under Mr Ugaz’ leadership, TI has pledged to tackle corruption at major corporations and in sport, specifically calling on FIFA to publish its investigation into the decision to award the World Cup to Russia and Qatar.
During the live broadcast, Mr Ugaz will answer questions submitted by the audience watching online in real time.
A leading anti-corruption lawyer, Mr Ugaz will discuss the impact of corruption on communities across the globe and the ways his organisation works to tackle it. Mr Ugaz has said: ‘I know what corruption is and how to fight it. The corrupt need to see Transparency International as their biggest fear. Nobody is above the law.’
Prior to taking the helm of TI, the global coalition against corruption, in 2014, Mr Ugaz was president of the organisation’s chapter in Peru. His election to Chair was the first time in TI’s 21-year history that a leader of one of its chapters was chosen for the position.
When he served as Ad Hoc Attorney General of Peru, Mr Ugaz prosecuted hundreds of government officials. He led the corruption case against the former President of Peru, Alberto Fujimori, and his chief of intelligence, Vladimiro Montesinos. Mr Fujimori is currently serving a 25-year prison sentence.
