Friends, I was not going to post anything here this weekend as for many of us this is a rare moment to enjoy family and put aside the concerns which draw us to one another here. Then this message appeared again in my email and called to me, both with its lucidity and because it is sadly clear that it is a voice which could get lost in the dizzy xenophobia which is being so deftly spread among us. Again the critical, and yet avoided, question is: With whom do we identify as „we,“ or „like us“ or „our people.“ As we draw those lines, let us not be led like lambs to slaughter to see a bigger awfulness when the victims of terrorism or tragedy have skin the color which we see in the mirror, or live in homes that look like those we see on television. Please help spread words like those here, and help combat the media push to make out real „us“ appear as „the other“ to hate and fear and demonize.
