Myanmar says ICC lacks jurisdiction to probe Rohingya crisis
This will come as no surprise… #Myanmar has issued a statement asserting that the #ICC lacks jurisdiction to probe the #Rohingya crisis https://t.co/7inAf4czc8 @kevinjonheller

Myanmar has expressed „serious concern“ over an attempt at the International Criminal Court to open a probe into mass deportations of Rohingya Muslims, dismissing the claims and saying the court has no jurisdiction.
Dangerously delusional denial that Burmese army didn’t ethnically cleanse ~700K Rohingya. Legal denial (though perhaps factually accurate, depending on China’s veto) that UN Security Council couldn’t send Rohingya situation to the International Crimnal Court. https://t.co/ROTCBlcvsZ

The President of the #ICC’s Pre-Trial Division, has established that the prosecutor’s request for a ruling on jurisdiction over #Myanmar deportation of #Rohingya to #Bangladesh meets existing criteria and assigned the request to Pre-Trial Chamber 1 https://t.co/Hm0clg5u2Y pic.twitter.com/8YiRprgHhi

To conclude, the UK’s humanitarian intervention argument is so bad even on its own terms that it is clear why the US and France chose to stay silent – no legal argument is in their view a better option than a palpably bad one. And every legal argument that could be put forward here is a palpably bad one – morally right or wrong, wise or stupid, the strikes are simply, unconditionally, unambiguously illegal.

Does anyone care that the Syria operation is unconstitutional and a breach of the UN Charter, and that apparently there’s not even a pretense of a legal argument in favor? Not sure I have anything new to add to what I wrote a year ago:@just_security https://t.co/8awK0bR2VH

Reupping my piece with .@jacklgoldsmith from earlier this week. I stand by every word. No one in the Trump Administration has offered a plausible domestic or international law argument (or, indeed, ANY real legal argument) to support the strike now underway. https://t.co/xv2zknN1cw
