ECCHR USES LAW TO RESPOND TO EU’S VIOLENT ISOLATION POLICIES

 INTERNATIONAL CRIMES AND ACCOUNTABILITY

The European Union’s brutal border policies place countless refugees and migrants at risk of death. The victims of patrols by Frontex, the EU border control agency, of abuse by the police forces of EU states and of violent push-backs are de facto deprived of any way to have their cases heard before European courts. Since 2014 ECCHR has been analyzing the legal foundations and the consequences of push-backs in the EU. Since February 2015 we have been assisting victims of various push-backs with legal action, the first cases taken under our new specialist division on migration. Potential legal action includes taking petitions to the European Court of Human Rights and domestic criminal proceedings in EU states.
