What can one say about Europe? I imagine that if one wants to be bitterly truthful then one could easily say that Hitler has in effect triumphed. He branded the Jews as the root of all troubles and proclaimed that the „final“ and only solution to the „Jewish problem“ was to eradicate all Jews from the face of the earth. And as we all know, he followed through on his genocidal program. A great deal of Europe, its leaders, intellectuals and common folk, willfully and almost gleefully cooperated in this genocide. Lhasa sits at the heart of Tibetan culture, history, heritage and spirituality. The Chinese government is destroying the old city to make way for a tourist city, displacing thousands of Tibetan families who have called it home for generations. Of particular concern is the construction of the Barkhor Shopping Mall. Once completed, the mall will encompass 150,000 square meters and will have an underground parking garage with over 1,000 parking spaces. If China continues with this construction, Tibet will lose thousands of years of irreplaceable cultural heritage.

The Jokhang and Potala Palace are on UNESCO’s World Heritage list, but China has continued to alter them anyway. Help us protect the old city of Lhasa by urging UNESCO to put it on the World Heritage Endanger List. If Lhasa is listed as in danger, China must either stop the construction or face losing a World Heritage Site.
