You may all know that at the historic “Roy Villa” in Darjeeling, Sister Nivedita spent her last days. We had handed over this building last year, to Ramakrishna Mission for renovation. I am happy to share with you that, today, I have inaugurated the renovated “Roy Villa” in presence of Swami Suhitananda, Secretary Maharaj of Ramakrishna Math and Mission, Belur. Swami Suvirananda, Assistant Secretary, Shri Bimal Gurung, Chief Executive, GTA and other dignitaries were also present.
We are developing an international tourist centre around “Roy Villa” so that tourists from all parts of the world can come here and enjoy its pristine serenity. Some pictures of the event are uploaded.

“At least 84 journalists have been killed in Syria since March 2011. Last month, two journalists were killed in Mali. These are simply very recent extreme cases that give some idea on the risks journalists face to inform us every day,” Mr. La Rue noted. “Only in the last two years, I have prepared letters on attacks against 171 journalists to 40 different countries.”

For the UN expert, more systematic attention of international bodies to all events of violence and harassment against journalists is crucial to change this trend: “Only some extreme cases of violence raise some attention. The far majority remains totally invisible.

There is broad international support for the process of accountability which is long overdue in Bangladesh, but both the ICT and the Bangladeshi government have wasted this golden opportunity for the Bangladeshi people with processes and procedures which are fundamentally flawed and fail to provide some of the most basic aspects of a fair trial. The death sentence passed on Mollah as a result of a retroactive law violates the ICCPR, to which Bangladesh is a signatory, and fails to provide even a right of appeal.
