MORARI BAPU – THE RAMAYANA EPIC POEM

hanumanji

www.iiramii.net

The Ramayana (DevanÄgarÄ: रामायण, RÄmÄyaṇa) is an ancient Sanskrit epic. It is attributed to the Hindu sage Valmiki and forms an important part of the Hindu canon (smṛti). The Ramayana is one of the two great epics of India, the other being the Mahabharata. It depicts the duties of relationships, portraying ideal characters like the ideal servant, the ideal brother, the ideal wife and the ideal king. The name Ramayana is a tatpurusha compound of RÄma and ayana („going, advancing“), translating to „Rama’s Journey“. The Ramayana consists of 24,000 verses in seven books (kÄṇḍas) and 500 cantos (sargas),  and tells the story of Rama (an incarnation of the Hindu preserver-god Vishnu), whose wife Sita is abducted by the demon king of Lanka, Ravana.

Thematically, the epic explores the tenets of human existence and the concept of dharma. Read More: > HERE <

The various Indian religions, such as Hinduism, Buddhism, Jainism, and Sikhism, have all accorded a central focus to dharma and advocate its practice. Each of these religions emphasizes Dharma as the correct understanding of reality in its teachings. In these traditions, beings that live in accordance with Dharma proceed more quickly toward dharma yukam, moksha or nirvana (personal liberation). The antonym of dharma is adharma meaning unnatural or immoral.

In traditional Hindu society, dharma has historically denoted a variety of ideas, such as Vedic ritual, ethical conduct, caste rules, and civil and criminal law. Its most common meaning however regarded two principal ideals; namely, that social life should be structured through well-defined and well-regulated classes (varna), and that an individual’s life within a class should be organized into defined stages (ashrama, see dharmasastra).

Dharma also refers to the teachings and doctrines of the founders of Buddhism and Jainism, the Buddha and Mahavira. In Buddhist philosophy, dhamma/dharma is also the term for „phenomenon . Read More: > HERE <

Dharma, artha and kama areimportant in matters of worldly life. Dharma and moksa should be followed judiciously if they are to lead to Self−realisation.

Patanjli, at the end of the of life and the qualities of nature moksa. Yoga Sutras, concludes that the practice of yoga frees a yogi from the aims(gunas), so that he can reach the final destination−−kaivalya or moksha.

Health and Harmony:

To acquire knowledge−−whether mundane or spiritual−−bodily health, mental poise, clarity and maturity of intelligence are essential. Health begets happiness and inspires one to further one’s knowledge of the world and of the Self. Health means perfect harmony in our respiratory, circulatory, digestive, endocrine, nervous and genito−excretory systems, and peace of mind. Hatha yoga practices are designed to bring about such harmony.

From its inception the magazine hit an instant chord with the reading public and has carved a base of enthusiastic and loyal readers who appreciate its support on the growth path. The magazine also provides validation, support and a sense of belonging to all those who seek a life of joy, harmony, peace and self-actualisation. In today’s sensationalistic and negative publishing culture, Life Positive stands out as a repository of sanity, optimism, and responsible journalism that promotes higher values. It can be credited with having pioneered the concept of spiritual journalism in India and for having created an altogether new niche in magazine publishing. It also influenced the publication of spirituality and health-based articles and sections in mainstream media most of which carry regular articles on the subjects today.

Sri Ramana Maharshi (Tamil: ரமண மஹரிஷி) (December 30, 1879 – April 14, 1950), born Venkataraman Iyer, was an Indian sage. He was born to a Tamil-speaking Brahmin family in Tiruchuzhi, Tamil Nadu. After having attained liberation at the age of 16, he left home for Arunachala, a mountain considered sacred by Hindus, at Tiruvannamalai, and lived there for the rest of his life. Arunachala is located in Tamil Nadu, South India. Although born a Brahmin, after having attained moksha he declared himself an „Atiasrami“, a Sastraic state of unattachment to anything in life and beyond all caste restrictions´.

Sri Ramana maintained that the purest form of his teachings was the powerful silence which radiated from his presence and quieted the minds of those attuned to it. He gave verbal teachings only for the benefit of those who could not understand his silence. His verbal teachings were said to flow from his direct experience of Consciousness (Atman) as the only existing reality. When asked for advice, he recommended self-enquiry as the fastest path to moksha. Though his primary teaching is associated with Non-dualism, Advaita Vedanta, and Jnana yoga, he recommended Bhakti to those he saw were fit for it, and gave his approval to a variety of paths and practices. DER BAUORDEN – Helfende Hände in Moldawien

    DER BAUORDEN

    CASA MAX

    http://oebo.blogspot.com/

Read More: > HERE < /  Int. IBO: www.bauorden.de

    The Hasta Mudra Project

A Collaboration of Tanjore Performing Arts and Chocolate Media.

The presentation of research and documentation included on this website is only the beginning of a larger project that will unveil connections between the use of hasta mudras in various traditional healing and performing arts and linking them to modern day usage today. The ultimate goal is to develop a documentary film that is visually pleasing and yet offers depth of research and content into the subject matter. Achieving this requires travel to India and other destinations where video footage will be shot on location at various temples and sites, interviews of scholars and practitioners around the world, as well as a variety of technical equipment and expertise.

The content within this website is derived of excerpts from an ongoing research project on hasta mudra as they are utilized in Bharata Natyam classical dance of India. The literal translation of the Sanskrit hasta mudra is hand (hasta) symbol (mudra), though hasta mudra can be interpreted in English as hand gestures or sign language. The broader scope of this project encompasses the ancient art of hand symbols as found in all the arts, including fine arts, performing arts, ritual arts, and healing arts.

Drawing connections within movement and myth, life and art, this project aims to provide insight into the world of hand symbolism through examining written and visual examples. We start with a brief historical overview and then proceed to analyze the usage of hasta mudras in dance. Technical nuances in their significance are examined as well as important artistic and stylistic qualities. This study’s analysis is offered from the point of view of an experienced practitioner of the art and is supported by several ancient texts, lending it both a personal as well as scholarly perspective.

Please consider being a part of this valuable project by contributing your expertise or funds. The project is in need of seed money to take it off the ground and into the next phase of production. If you have suggestions or would consider including this project into your funding or research plans, please contact us.

ANI CHOYING DROLMA – Tibetan Songs

Ani Choying Dolma's Photos - Losar Celebration at Arya Tara School

    > ANI´s WELFARE FOUNDATION <

Her actual name is Ani (which means nun or sister) Choying Drolma. Ani Choying Drolma is an exceptional singer, admired by fans all over the world. People are moved to tears by the plaintive purity of her voice, and the haunting melodies of her ancient songs and hymns, passed from master to pupil for many centuries.

Ani Choying has always believed that nuns have a great desire and potential to make the world a better place, if only given equal opportunities. In 2000 she opened the Arya Tara School. The school aims to equip nuns to help and to serve their communities in a professional and humanitarian capacity. With a fully developed and realized potential, she believes that her nuns will be able to not only help themselves, but also to help others.

In brief, Arya Tara School aims to help young nuns bring their compassion into fruition, actively, effectively, skillfully and meaningfully. Traditionally, says Ani Choying, women’s education is neglected in Asia. “most of the girls at my nunnery are from rural areas either in Tibet, India or Nepal, patriarchal cultures where women are expected just to cook, clean and bear children. Even in the nunnery, they are taught to read classical Tibetan in order to do the religious practice, but many cannot write their own names.”

Her school would educate them in Literacy, Maths, Science, Medical and Nursing skills, and Buddhist philosophy.

The Mind and Life Institute is dedicated to fostering dialogue and research at the highest possible level between modern science and the great living contemplative traditions, especially Buddhism. It builds on a deep commitment to the power and value of both of these ways of advancing knowledge and their potential to alleviate suffering.

The ongoing global financial crisis shows clearly just how vulnerable economic systems are to human behavior, particularly to corruption and greed. This strongly suggests that other qualities, such as empathy, pro-social motivation, altruism and compassion may play an essential role in our increasingly competitive global economic system.

But can we really imagine an economic system that delivers prosperity and welfare, or is competition an unavoidable consequence of the human race? How can we, as individuals, help form a society that is both productive and resolves actual societal and environmental problems? What have the sciences to contribute – if anything at all?

By bringing together some of the world’s leading minds, the Mind and Life XX Conference highlights the benefits and limitations of altruism and compassion in economic systems. This offers a unique opportunity to follow a high-level, interdisciplinary exchange of scientists and economists focusing both on individual thinking and the structure of economic systems.

Thus, the conference will build bridges between different disciplines and serve as a catalyst for new research projects and economic initiatives promoting personal responsibility, fairness and compassion.

Mind and Life XIV – Dialogues on „The Universe in a Single Atom“

The Dalai Lama’s book The Universe in a Single Atom: the Convergence of Science and Spirituality highlights those issues he feels are most important in the „convergence of science and spirituality.“ These issues form the focus of this webcast of the Mind and Life XIV meeting, and become the foundation on which a group of scientists develop a deep dialogue with the Dalai Lama and other Buddhist scholar-practitioners. > VIEW HERE <

    > VOCATION WEEKEND <

God’s desire is first. God always makes the first move toward us. God in Christ is always drawing us, beckoning us. But how to know, how to recognize God’s nearness, God’s desire? Perhaps the best way is by noticing my deepest desires. What do I long for? What do I dream about? What attracts me? What has seized my imagination? It takes time, prayer and patience but once I get in touch with this deep down place of my desire, everything will be changed, transformed. I will want to follow and pursue what I love with my whole heart, with all my strength. For, indeed, God speaks to us through our deepest desires- desires for happiness, wholeness, holiness. „His desire gives rise to yours,“ says our Cistercian father, Saint Bernard, „and if you are eager to receive his word, it is he who is rushing to enter your heart; for he first loved us, not we him.“

Clearly then the first question in any vocational discernment always will be, „What do I really desire?“ Some may notice the first stirrings of a desire for the monastic way of life. They may have read about Cistercian monastic life; they may have visited our Abbey and been attracted by the beauty of this place, the beauty of the Liturgy, the joy and meaningfulness of the lives of the monks they see. Indeed, the attraction to our life may be experienced by many, but the life of an enclosed monk is meant for relatively few. These are the ones who will acknowledge the continuing desire for monastic life in their hearts. These are the ones who will want to respond to the divine invitation to remain in the monastery hidden in Christ, following him in a way of life that is „ordinary, obscure and laborious.“

The monastic community of St. Joseph’s Abbey is pleased to welcome such men. Those seeking admission to our monastery are expected to be thinking about a lifetime commitment to our way of solitude, prayer and communal living.

MONASTIC EXPERIENCE WEEKENDS are vocational discernment retreats for single Roman Catholic men between the ages of 25 and 45. THE NEXT MONASTIC EXPERIENCE WEEKEND WILL BE HELD AT SAINT JOSEPH’S ABBEY ON APRIL 30 – MAY 2, 2010. Candidates are always welcome to visit us at other times as well.

The Abbey’s Vocation Director is ready to listen, encourage and counsel any prospective candidate.

Inquiries should be made to the vocation director, vocation@spencerabbey.org,
